International Transgender Day of Visibility: 31 March

International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrate globally on 31 March every year.

The day is celebrated to appreciate transgender people and to raise awareness about discrimination happening to transgender people around the world. The first International Transgender Day was held on 31 March 2009.


Odisha Day or Utkal Day: 1 April

Utkal Divas or Odisha day is observe on April 1 every year. Today Odisha celebrates its 86th foundatin day. On April 1, 1936, the Odisha state became a separate state.

Odisha is the ninth largest state in India by area and the eleventh largest state by population.

Global Wind Report 2021

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has released the ‘Global Wind Report, 2021’on 25 March.

  • According to the report, the year 2020 was the best year for the global wind energy industry. A total of 93 gigawatts (GW) capacity installed in the year. This is an increase of 53% year-on-year.
  • According to the report, the world needs to install a minimum of 180 GW of new wind energy capacity every year to achieve global climate targets and bring down global warming below 2°C.
  • At present, the world has a total wind energy capacity of 743 GW helping the world to avoid 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually.
  • China and the United States accounted for 75% of the new installations and over half the world’s wind power capacity.

  • As of February 2021, India’s total installed wind power capacity was 38GW, the fourth largest installed wind power capacity in the world.

Dr. Sharankumar Limble received the Saraswati Award for 2020

Dr Sharankumar Limbale will receive Saraswati Samman, 2020 for his book ‘Sanatan.

The Saraswati Samman was instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation. It consists of ₹15,00,000 a citation and a plaque.
The first Saraswati award was given to Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan for his four-volume autobiography.

Lewis Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix 2021

On March 28, 2021, Lewis Hamilton won the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix. This was Lewis Hamilton’s 96th Formula one Victory.

Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton is the British driver of Formula One racing, currently racing for the McLaren Mercedes team, and the youngest world champion of Formula One to date.


‘Chhatrasal Convention Center’ inaugurated in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh

Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan inaugurated the ‘Maharaja Chhatrasal Convention Center’ in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. It has been develop under the ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.

The temple at Khajuraho, located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, was built by the Chandel Shakshas between the mid-10th and 11th centuries.

In 1986, Khajuraho temples were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.


‘Ever Given’ ship freed in Suez Canal

The cargo ship ‘Ever Given’ has been freed on 29 March after being trapped in the Suez Canal of Egypt for about six days. The ship was going from China to Port Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

  • This canal connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea, dividing Suez Africa and Asia.
  • The Suez Canal was nationalized in 1956 by Egyptian President Abdul Nasser.

Maggie O’Farrell’s “Hemnet” has won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. Which speculates on the death of Shakespeare’s son from the bubonic plague.

The National Book Critics Circle Awards are a set of annual American literary awards by the National Book Critics Circle to promote “the finest books and reviews published in English”.
