Manipur’s ‘Hathei chilli‘ and ‘Tamenglong Orange’ get GI tag

Two popular products of the state of Manipur ‘Elephant Chilli’ and ‘Tamenglong Mandarin Orange’ have been given Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Elephant chilli: Elephant chilli is grown in Sirarakhong village of Ukhrul district.
Tamenglong Oranges: A species of Mandarin group which is a unique fruit crop found in Tamenglong district.
It is large in size, weighing around 232.76 grams.
GI Tags: GI tags in India are given under the Registration and Protection Act 1999.
First GI Tag: Darjeeling Tea (2004)
Other GI Tags from Manipur: Chak-Hao (Black Rice), Gorakhpur Terracotta, Kachai Lime, Shafi Lanfi (Textile), Wangkhi Fei (Textile), Moirang Fei (Textile)


Sikkim Government declares ‘Katli’ as ‘State Fish’

DBS Bank has achieved this title for the second time in three years.
Recently DBS Bank was also named as ‘World’s Best Digital Bank 2021’.
With this the bank has become the first bank in the world to receive both the titles at the same time.

After the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the new Chief Minister of Punjab.
Charanjit Singh Channi is the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab.
He is an MLA from Chamkaur Sahib assembly seat.

Harmilan Kaur Bains of Punjab sets new national record in 1500m race

Harmilan Kaur Bains of Punjab broke a 19-year-old record in 1500 meters to create a new national record.
23-year-old Harmilan Kaur Bains won the gold in the 60th National Open Athletics Championships by completing the 1500 meters race in 4:05.39 minutes.
Earlier this record was in the name of Sunita Rani.
He finished the race in 4:06.03 seconds at the Asian Games, Busan 2002.


‘Uttar Pradesh Mathrubhumi Yojana’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the launch of ‘Uttar Pradesh Mathrubhumi Yojana’ in the state.
This scheme has been started with the aim of getting cooperation from common citizens in the development works of the government.
Under this scheme, 50% of the total cost will be spent by the government.
While the remaining 50% cooperation will be taken from the interested person.


Two-time Olympic gold medalist Yuri Sedikh passed away

Recently, Russian athlete Yuri Sedikh, who won two gold medals in the Olympics, passed away.
He won gold medals in the hammer throw at the 1976 (Montreal) and 1980 (Moscow) Olympics.
Sedic set a world record at the 1986 European Championships with a throw of 84.74 metres.
This record remains even today.
