Martyr’s Day: 23 March

Every year, 23 March is celebrated as Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas. The day is celebrated to remember the courage and valor of three great young leaders Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivram Rajguru. On this day, these three great leaders were hanged. In Lahore on this day i.e. on 23 March 1931, these three were hanged for killing the British police officer John Saunders in 1928. They mistakenly considered him the British Superintendent of Police, James Scott, who ordered the lathicharge in which Lala Lajpat Rai died.
Apart from this, January 30 is also celebrated as Martyr’s Day in memory of Mahatma Gandhi.


Arindam Bagchi appointed as Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs

Arindam Bagchi has been appointed as the spokesperson of the new foreign ministry.
Bagchi is a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service officer who previously served as an ambassador in Croatia and deputy high commissioner in Sri Lanka, in addition to serving as a director in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Former SEBI chairman GV Ramakrishna has passed away. Ramakrishna was the chairman of SEBI from August 1990 to January 1994 in the Indian Administrative Service in 1952 and held various important positions in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India.

India’s Singharas won the gold medal in the 2021 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup

Indian para-athlete, Singharaj won the gold medal at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates on 21 March 2021. Singharaj defeated Uzbekistan’s server Ibragimov by 2.8 points and took top honors in the finals of the P1-Men’s 10-meter air pistol SH1. Ibragimov of Uzbekistan won the silver medal with 9.5 and 7.9.
Turkey’s previous Paralympic champion Muharram Koran Yama won the bronze medal with 214.4 points. World Championship medalist Manish Narwal finished fourth with 194.3 points.
India (one gold, one bronze) has come third in the medal table with the gold medal won by Singharaj. India lags behind Ukraine (3 gold, 3 silver and one bronze) and hosts UAE (2 gold).


PM Modi launches ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign

On 22 March, Prime Minister Modi launched the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” campaign on the occasion of World Water Day. This campaign will be conducted in rural and urban areas of the country. This campaign will be run from 22 March to 30 November.
The tagline of this campaign is “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls”. The campaign will help create suitable Rain Water Harvesting Structures-RWHS that are suitable for climatic conditions and sub-seasons before the monsoon falls.

Maharashtra farmers start fruit cake “Movement”

Fruit growers in rural Maharashtra have started a fruit cake “movement” to promote fresh fruit cakes as a healthier alternative, rather than traditional bakery cakes, to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions.
According to farmers and agricultural experts, this new campaign is fast gaining fame in social media. Its main objective is to include more and more fruits in its diet to farmers and their families and to find a new way of selling their crops in the times of Corona epidemic.


India Legends won the Road Safety World Series T20

Under the leadership of Sachin Tendulkar in the final played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), India Legends defeated Sri Lanka Legends by 14 runs in the final match of Road Safety World Series T20 2021. India Legends scored a total of 181/4 runs but Sri Lanka Legends scored 167/7.

Global Home Price Index

India has slipped 13 places to 56th in the Global Home Price Index for the quarter ended December 2020, according to a report by Knight Frank, an international property consultancy. The price of houses in India has come down by 3.6 percent compared to last year. India was ranked 43rd in the Global Home Price Index in the fourth quarter of 2019.
According to the report, demand for homes has increased in the past three months in some markets such as New Zealand (19 per cent), Russia (14 per cent), Canada and the UK (both 9 per cent). Due to this, the ranking of these countries has improved. In a 12-month percentage change for the period Q4 2019 – Q4 2020, Turkey continues to top the annual rankings with prices at 30.3% annually, followed by New Zealand at 18.6% and Slovakia at 16.0%.

Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal inaugurates Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial

On 23 March 2021 (Martyr’s Day), Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial in New Delhi. The Shaheed Bhagat Singh memorial provides tribute and remembrance to the 90 years of martyrdom of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivram Rajguru, the country’s icons of the Indian National Movement.
