International Dog Day: 26 August

International Dog Day is celebrated every year on 26 August with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of providing a safe environment for dog adoption and dog rescue.
The day was started in the year 2004 by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert, animal rescue advocate, conservationist, dog trainer and author.
On August 26, Page’s family adopted their first dog, Sheltie, at the age of ten.


Global Manufacturing Risk Index 2021

Recently the Global Manufacturing Risk Index 2021 was released by US-based asset advisory Cushman & Wakefield.
In a ranking of 47 countries,
India has overtaken the United States to become the second most sought-after manufacturing destination globally.

In the year 2020, America was in second place, India was at third place.

Government of India started ‘Operation Devi Shakti’ to rescue Indians trapped in Afghanistan

Tekchand to be India’s new flag bearer at Tokyo Paralympics

Asian Games gold medalist Tekchand (javelin thrower) will be India’s new flag bearer at the opening ceremony of Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
Earlier Mariyappan Thangavelu (2016 Rio Paralympic Gold Medalist – High Jump) was the flag bearer.
But being Covid positive, Tekchand will take his place.

Ministry of Jal Shakti launches ‘Sujalam’ campaign

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched the ‘Sujalam’ campaign on 25 August 2021.
It has been started with an aim to make more and more Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages across the country.
This 100-day long campaign is part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: This is a special initiative launched by the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.
The festival will run for 75 weeks (15 August 2023) starting from 12 March 2021.

He will replace IPS officer SS Deswal.
SS Deswal is the Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and holds the additional charge of Director General of BSF.
After his retirement on 31 August 2021, Pankaj Singh will take over as the new Director General of BSF.

India’s tallest herbal park inaugurated near India-China border

India’s highest herbal park has been inaugurated near the border of India and China in Mana village of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
This park is situated at an altitude of 11,000 feet.
About 40 species of medicinal importance have been preserved in the Herbal Park.
